It would have to be a run of the mill any kind you find at the store type of bookmark. Just use your memory and remember the last page number you were reading. Done.

I'm known to stick most anything in as a place holder but I think the sheet of toilet paper was the most embarrassing.

I have tried the memory thing--I am not very good at it. My most common is a receipt or one of those postcards from magazines where they are trying to get you to subscribe to the magazine. :)
